What Is a LED Backlit LCD TV

One of the newest technologies in flat screens is called a LED Backlit LCD tv. It is important to note that this type of flat screen tv is completely different from the LCDs of just a year or two ago. Those LCD tvs utilized fluorescent lamps as their lighting source and did not offer all of the benefits that LEDs offer today.
Just so you know exactly what I am referring to, let’s explore the lingo. The older style LCD displays used CCFL technology. CCFL is an acronym for cold-cathode fluorescent lamps which were used as the “light source” for the display panel of the LCD tv. In LCD televisions, a light source that is projected from behind is required to display the images on the television screen. This is one of the main differences between a Plasma vs LCD tv.
A “LED Backlit LCD tv” uses LEDs as it’s projected light source for displaying images on the flat screen panel. LED is an acronym for Light Emitting Diode and although LEDs have been around for many years, they have been recently perfected for use in large flat screen tvs. The benefits of using LEDs in LCD tvs are numerous. They offer extremely long life, they require very little power, they are very small, and they are very bright. The newest “top of the line” LED-LCDs are so good that their picture quality even rivals the best Plasma tvs.
One of the most desirable features of flat screen tvs is that they can be made very thin and light weight, and this is one feature that LED-LCDs can’t be beat. Because LEDs are so small and light, many LED backlit LCDs are being offered at a thickness of less than 1 inch thick. Most Plasma tvs are still being made close to 3 inches thick.
There are many more beneficial features that LED-LCDs are gaining the upper hand in. So if you plan on shopping for a new Big Screen TV for your home or office, you will surely want to ask the salesperson to show you the newest LED Backlit LCD tv.
